The reasoning for this payout:

For a $50 payout, this is a very underrated part of our game but obviously totally uncontrollable.  This payout portion was instituted a number of years ago to "reward" or payback if you will, the guy who got shafted the most out of his draft picks.  There is a +/- column now added to the printouts that calculates how many points your draft pick scored over or <under> his regular season average during the NCAA tournament.  It's a simple calculation of multiplying the number of games played times the reg season average less the total points scored thus far in the tournament.  This becomes the +/- number for each draft pick.

Before the tournament starts, we can only go on what our draft picks scored per game during the regular season.  We have no control over how they are asked to perform by the coaching staff or actually perform in pressure situations during the NCAA tournament, so their tournament scoring may or may not be affected negatively.  We may also be affected by draft night mistakes where a player is drafted that for whatever reason probably or will not play in the tournament.

Matt Krautstrunk & Jeremiah Royer at <106> points, accumulated the most negative amounts from their draft selections in the 2015 NCAA tournament.  Had they scored what they did during the regular season, it would have changed his final position in the game dramatically from an out of the money postion 4th to a "in the money" position 2nd place!

On the flip side of this, Team Trevino, Ralph & Nick ended up + 42 this year from their picks.  Yes, this did help them greatly because they finished in 2nd place in the tournament.  Had they scored what they scored during the regular season, Team Trevino would have finished in 5th place, 2 positions away from money position.

The recalculated rerun of the points with the negative totals added back and the positive totals subtracted ended up at:

note: the player averages used are from ESPN.com's website after the regular season is over and before they play in any post season tournament game.  The only exception to this would be from those teams who came out of nowhere to qualify which almost always happens and then we use whatever their end of the year (including post season tournament) average per game

  • Best Players : Sam Dekker (Wisconsin) accumulated a + 36 point total during the tournament for the Kremer teamFred VanVleet (Wichita State) accumulated a + 32 points for drafter Ralph & Nick Trevino.  VanVleet a 12.5 / game scorer in the regular season, was well above that average in the 3 games Wichita State played in the tournament.  He averaged 23.0 points per game in the tournament.  Quentin Snider (Louisville) this freshman averaged 3.3 pts per game during the regular season.  Perhaps with the loss of Chris Jones, Snider rose to the occasion.  Picked in the 22nd round by Rob Stenzel, Snider averaged 11.0 a game in the tournament for a plus 31 points, WOW.
  • Worst Players : Chris Jones (Louisville) a 19th round, 190thoverall pick, accumulated a <55> point total for the Matt Krautstrunk & Jeremiah Royer team during the tournament.  You can't blame Jones though, he was thrown off the team the last week of February with sexual assault charges levied against him.  Similar situations for Treveaon Jackson (Wisconsin) <44> and for Ryan Harrow (Georgia State) <34> who were both injured coming into the tournament.  For players that actually played but underperformed, Amile Jefferson (Duke) an 8th round pick for Team Seyccles ended the tournament <26> under regular season average.
