The reasoning for this payout:

For a $50 payout, this is a very underrated part of our game but obviously totally uncontrollable.  This payout portion was instituted a number of years ago to "reward" or payback if you will, the guy who got shafted the most out of his draft picks.  There is a +/- column now added to the printouts that calculates how many points your draft pick scored over or <under> his regular season average during the NCAA tournament.  It's a simple calculation of multiplying the number of games played times the reg season average less the total points scored thus far in the tournament.  This becomes the +/- number for each draft pick.

Before the tournament starts, we can only go on what our draft picks scored per game during the regular season.  We have no control over how they are asked to perform by the coaching staff or actually perform in pressure situations during the NCAA tournament, so their tournament scoring may or may not be affected negatively.

The commissioner at <117> points, accumulated the most negative amounts from his draft selections in the 2014 NCAA tournament.  Had they scored what they did during the regular season, it would have changed his final position in the game slightly from 8th to 6th place but not into a money position.

On the flip side of this, Rob Stenzel ended up + 60 this year from his picks and he ended up in 2nd place for the game.  The recalculation shows that Rob would have finished in 8th place had everybody scored what they did during the regular season and John Lehman would have been in a money position with Noffke team moving up one spot.

The recalculated rerun of the points with the negative totals added back and the positive totals subtracted show pretty much the same results that our Final Results ended up at.

note: the player averages used are from ESPN.com's website after the regular season is over and before they play in any post season tournament game.  The only exception to this would be from those teams who came out of nowhere to qualify which almost always happens and then we use whatever their end of the year (including post season tournament) average per game

  • Best Player(s) : Josh Richardson (Tennessee) accumulated a + 32 point total during the tournament for the SID team.  Richardson more than doubled his regular season average in the tournament averaging 20 a game versus regular season 9.5.  Dustin Hogue (Iowa State) also accumulated a + 32 points for drafter Dennis Hammer. Hogue a 10.4 / game scorer hit 34 points in their 3rd round loss to U Conn.  Last year SID drafted Michigan's Jordan Morgan who accumulated a <25> points in 2013 tournament.  One year later, Morgan finished in the top 3 with a + 29 point accumulation for Rob Stenzel by averaging nearly 13 / game well over his 5.5 / game regular season average.
  • Worst Player : Brandon Ashley (Arizona) 3rd round, 312st overall pick, accumulated a <46> point total for the Noffke team during the tournament.  You can't blame Ashley though, he was out for the year with an injury incurred in February.  For players that actually played but underperformed, Keith Appling (Michigan State) a 2nd round pick for Dennis Hammer ended the tournament <41> under regular season average.  We were told during the tournament that Appling had a wrist injury.
