Field narrowed from 64 to 32 teams: Awful early to
predict anything after Thursday and Friday's first round action and then going into
the first weekend of games. It is really great to watch all the
matchups and
see the outcomes live, and even get in an hour or 5 of some "bitch in the
middle".
This year we did not see
too many upsets although three # 12 seeded teams won during the opening
round. #12 Arizona defeated #5 Utah 84-71 in the Midwest Region,
#12 Wisconsin defeated #5 Florida State 61-59 in the East Region and #5
Western Kentucky defeated #5 Illinois 76-72. Also, #4 Wake Forest
fell to #13 Cleveland State 84-69.
Big hero in Claude
Childers and Dave Eccles #17 round
draft pick Roburt Sallie (pictured) of Memphis. Sallie, a
4.7 regular season average scored 35 points in Memphis' opening round
game over Cal State Northridge. Sallie hit for 17 first half
points and followed that with another 18 in the second half going 10-15
from 3 point range.
